Frequently Asked Questions
Our AI grader uses Claude Vision to analyse card condition across all four grading dimensions — centering, corners, edges, and surface. It is highly accurate for estimating grade ranges, particularly for common grades (PSA 6–9). Accuracy improves with high-quality, well-lit photos. It is not a replacement for official grading but gives an excellent pre-submission estimate to help you decide whether grading is financially worthwhile.
PSA (Professional Sports Authenticator) grades on a 1–10 whole-number scale and is the most widely recognised grading company. BGS (Beckett Grading Services) uses a half-point scale (1–10 in 0.5 increments) and grades each of the four sub-categories — centering, corners, edges, and surface — individually before giving a composite grade. BGS 9.5 (Gem Mint) and BGS 10 (Pristine) are considered the benchmark for modern premium cards.
Grading is typically worth it when the card has significant value in high grade. As a rule of thumb, if a PSA 9 or 10 of your card sells for more than 3–5x the grading fee, it is worth submitting. Use our AI estimator to get a grade range first, then check recently sold prices on eBay or 130point.com to calculate your potential return.
PSA grades range from 1 (Poor) to 10 (Gem Mint). PSA 7 (Near Mint) means the card shows minor wear. PSA 8 (Near Mint-Mint) is a sharp card with minimal flaws. PSA 9 (Mint) is nearly perfect with only minor imperfections. PSA 10 (Gem Mint) is a flawless card — perfect centering, sharp corners, clean edges, and a pristine surface.
For best results: shoot in bright natural light or LED light, use a plain dark (black or dark grey) background, hold the camera directly above the card (straight-on, not at an angle), avoid flash glare, and ensure both the front and back are in sharp focus. Blurry or glare-heavy photos will reduce AI confidence and accuracy.
